MARGARET RITCHIE SEES THE BENEFITS OF WARM HOMES SCHEME

26/02/2010

Social Development Minister, Margaret Ritchie visited the home of a Warm Homes Scheme client to see at first hand the benefits of the Warm Homes Scheme.

The Minister visited the Downpatrick home of Ms Sheena McMullan, whose home was recently made 43% more energy efficient by replacing its Petroleum Gas system with a new oil central heating system installed through the Warm Homes Scheme.

Margaret Ritchie said: What I have seen here today illustrates the huge difference this scheme can make to people’s lives, their warmth, their comfort; and their heating bills.

I am committed to improving the warmth and comfort of vulnerable households and I will continue to do everything in my power to assist those in poverty. The Warm Homes Scheme has already improved the energy efficiency of over 4,000 homes this year.

I want to thank Bryson Charitable Group for their contribution in carrying out the work on this and many other homes on behalf of the Housing Executive. I would also like to thank Ms McMullan for inviting me into her home and affording me the opportunity to see for myself how this scheme has benefited her.”

Delighted with her new heating system, Ms McMullan commended the work which was carried out by Bryson Contractors, George Nelson “I was very impressed by the high standard of work and the professionalism of the workmen. The heating system has made a huge difference to the warmth of my home and I would recommend the Scheme to anyone who is eligible.”

Laura Campbell, Referrals Officer with Bryson Charitable Group said, “The scheme provides a host of insulation and heating measures to eligible home owners and private rented tenants who are in receipt of a qualifying benefit.   We can also offer free benefit entitlement checks to households, to make sure they are getting all they are entitled to, plus free energy advice to help them save money.”
